Our Meals on Wheels program provides hot noon meals to Columbia residents who are 65 or older, living with a disability, or recovering from a recent hospital stay. Clients can also choose to receive additional dinner and weekend meals for extra support. - You must live in the city limits of Columbia, Missouri.
- You must be 65 or over; or,
- You must have a diagnosed disability or a diagnosed chronic illness (any age); or,
- You have been recently hospitalized and need food support for 2-3 weeks.
We serve individuals of all incomes. Some of our clients do receive free meals while others pay a subsidized or a reasonable full amount based upon monthly income. When we talk with you, we will tell you what your meal cost will be. You will pay for your meals by submitting a credit card or account numbers which we can bill the month after you receive your meals.
With two dieticians helping guide our menu planning, we are able to make many accommodations for different dietary needs. We offer vegetarian, consistent carb, renal, and low sodium diet customized meals. We work with you when we onboard you as a client. We also offer drinks like milk or apple juice.
We offer a hot meal Monday-Friday to our clients. Some clients receive meals 5 days a week and some do our minimum of 3 meals a week. We also offer a box meal for dinner and frozen meals for weekends or holidays. Our volunteers deliver meals anywhere between 11 and 12:30.
We have white styrofoam coolers, or you can use your own, to put the meal inside if you will be gone for several hours or do not want to go to the door for delivery. We encourage our clients, though, to get to know the wonderful, background-checked individuals who deliver your food. If you will be gone for a longer term, you can call our office to pause your meals until you return.
If you are having a food emergency, we can get you the meals fairly quickly; however, we typically will choose a day one week after you have called.
We have a high value of customer service at Meals on Wheels. We pledge to get back to you within 24 hours of you submitting your form during our business week hours (M-F).
