Who We Are

Meals on Wheels of Columbia is a non-profit organization that aims to extend independence to seniors in our community. Through the help of our many volunteer drivers, we are able to provide a hot, nutritious meal to those with limited mobility. Meals on Wheels operates on a sliding fee schedule based on the federal poverty level. This allows each client to pay according to their financial status.

Though receiving a daily meal makes a huge difference in the life of someone who can’t get out on their own, the benefit doesn’t stop there. In addition to addressing hunger, the Meals on Wheels delivery may be the only point of social interaction the recipient has for an entire day. Many times, these individuals will look forward to the visit—even giving them a reason to get up and dressed for the day.

Our History

In 1972, a small group of people in Columbia, Missouri saw a great need. Seniors in the community were unable to prepare meals for themselves in their own homes. Starting with one small route and a kitchen, Meals on Wheels began its service to our city.

Fifty years later, Meals on Wheels of Columbia now delivers a hot, nutritious noon meal five days a week to hundreds in our community. With the help of the kitchen staff at the VA Hospital, generous local donors, and an eager group of volunteers, we are able to take care of those who once took care of us.
